Long Term Substitute Teacher    2011
Meeker Middle School, Kent, WA
Took over 7th grade language arts class, as well as two blocks of Tier 3 Language! intervention classes. Worked with ELL, special education, and at-risk youth, to bring students up to grade level and promote a high achieving attitude among students. Developed academic units of study, prepared students for state testing and maintained strong classroom management.

ATOSS Teacher/Counselor    2009-2010

ATOSS stands for Alternative to Out of School Suspension. As facilitator, I provided students social skills training, homework support, daily drug and alcohol education and group counseling sessions, as well as coordinated drug and alcohol treatment for students with local treatment facilities. Additionally, I assisted students in the Kenai Peninsula Youth Facility classroom as needed.

Successfully completed five months of student teaching under the advisement of Callie Hart and Lisa Chovil. Developed short and long range units to engage and motivate students in their learning. Met all university educational standards with high levels of effectiveness. Was able to step in for regular teacher as she went through serious health problems. Participated in all regular teaching activities including leading over 60 student conferences, regular school meetings and collaborating with team teachers and special education teacher.

Research Assistant and Presenter    2008

Participated in facilitating and conducting research on the effectiveness and outcomes of a mentoring program between Western Washington University education students and at risk youth from Shuksan Middle School.
